At Bowater Honda, we are focused on making Nelson, and in turn New Zealand, a greener place to live.
We achieve this many ways, but it is through Honda New Zealand's corporate commitment to being a responsible company that the real action takes place, on both a local and national level.
Honda believes in environmental policies through their ongoing research and development, ultra low emission vehicles, and extensive environmental sponsorship.
Honda has funded almost half a million trees since 2004 through their TreeFund project. Ten native trees are funded for every new car that Honda New Zealand sells, with another three funded by Bowater Honda as sellers of that car. So for every new car sold, 13 trees are planted.

Hybrid Automotive Technology.
Honda has invested considerable resources in creating Hybrid Technology for everyone.
Honda first marketed the original Honda Insight in 1999 and has been working on the technology for over two decades. The Insight's power comes from a hybrid of a petrol engine, paired with an electric motor to form Honda's IMA (Integrated Motor Assist) system.
The IMA system in the Insight, and now other cars across the Honda range such as the CR-Z, boosts fuel efficiency, without sacrificing performance.
Honda chose the simple parallel hybrid design in which the engine is the main power source. Since the parallel hybrid design is simpler, it can be made lighter. Also, lower weight helps improve vehicle performance and fuel efficiency.
Because the engine serves as the main power source, engine power can be transmitted to the wheels directly for a sportier, more enjoyable driving experience.
This video from 2011 explains the system nicely, but it does show overseas models.
The Honda IMA system is currently available in New Zealand in the Insight and CR-Z models. The Hybrid Jazz as discussed in the above video is not currently available. The Honda Insight is a car very worthy of a second glance. It is art in motion.
Greening the manufacturing process.
Inspiration comes from many places. Honda engineer Shubho Bhattacharya, inspired by his belief that global warming is one of the greatest challenges facing mankind today, developed technology to reduce energy in the auto body-painting process at the Honda manufacturing plant in Marysville, Ohio. Watch how Bhattacharya's Intelligent Paint Technology has cut the plant's energy use by 25 percent.
