Nelson Mayor Aldo Miccio rules the road in a very wet prius challenge
Today our local Nelson mayor Aldo Miccio came by to tackle the Prius Challenge.
He was quite keen to let everyone know just how green he is when it comes to driving, but got a little distracted and somewhat excited by the shiny white Lexus ISF V8 parked beside the little eco Prius C in the showroom before we left. His true colours when it comes to cars perhaps are not so much Prius green but Italian racing red?
The conditions on the day were not the greatest for posting a super eco score - the heavy rain meant we had to use the windscreen wipers, lights and demisters on both the front and rear windscreens, so he was up against it from the start.
So how did Aldo do in the Prius Challenge?
Our 200th Facebook Liker
Last week we got to our double century of Facebook LIKERS on our main Bowater Motor Group Facebook page. As we got close we offered up a bit of a prize as a reward and an acknowledgement of the two hundred milestone.
As it always seemed to be raining, and with a long range forecast just littered with rain every day, an executive Toyota umbrella seemed fitting.
This afternoon, bathed in sunshine, the winner Kieran Bennett came by to pick up his umbrella. The shot loses it's impact with a sky full of blue in the background, but congratulations Kieran, may it keep you dry for years to come!
Crossing the European continent in the GT86
Continental Drift!
Nino Karotta crosses Europe in a Toyota GT86 to put it up against his now "vintage" AE86 on a racetrack to see how they compare.
This is the ultimate road trip.
Unlike most of the video reviews of the 86 we've seen so far, this one delves well beyond the fact sheet to give us a glimpse of what the car is actually like to operate. Karotta takes the GT 86 from the twisting mountains of France across Germany via the Autobahn and into Austria for a date with his own AE86.
With a stellar soundtrack, beautiful videography and insightful commentary, the video is what all reviews should strive to be. How does the newcomer stack up against its ancestor? We won't spoil it for you.
Check out the clip below. You'll be glad you took the time.
Japanese cars are 'most reliable' used car brands in UK
When it comes to choosing a new or used car you have to carefully weigh up many factors. One of the most important has to be reliability, with equal consideration given to maintainance and the cost of repairs in the event of breakdown.
Over the last 65 years the Bowater Motor Group has sold quite a range of car brands, from the early days of Nelson built Triumph's through to Rover, Land Rover & Leyland over the years to name but a few of the many we have had.
The end result of those 65 years worth of experience is the brands we sell right now - just as this BBC article explains, the Japanese have the reliability market all sewn up!
Japanese carmakers Honda, Toyota and Lexus have been named the most reliable used car brands in the UK in a survey by What Car? and Warranty Direct.

Suzuki and Subaru, also Japanese, were ranked fourth and fifth respectively in the survey of cars between three and 10 years old. South Korean carmaker Hyundai shared sixth place with Japan's Mazda and Mitsubishi.
By contrast, Land Rover was the least reliable marque surveyed.
Other luxury car brands, including Audi, Jaguar and Mercedes, were also among the 10 least reliable.
"They need to do better," said What Car?'s editor in chief, Chas Hallett, insisting these marques' poor reliability would be "surprising to many".
"Reliability is so important to motorists, especially when times are tough."
