Why the Hyundai Kona Electric is our Top Plug-In Car of 2018
05/11/2018 - This article has been taken from a Stuff.co.nz article. We have used our BMG photos.
Despite a lot of talk about plug-in vehicles this year, it's still very early days for electric vehicles in New Zealand. The infrastructure is improving, but the cars are few in number and the capital cost is very high.
Logic might dictate this award go to a plug-in hybrid vehicle then, which gives a taste of pure-EV running but keeps a combustion engine in the loop as we adjust to this brave new world.
That might have happened, had the Hyundai Kona Electric not come along and completely recalibrated our expectations of what a pure-EV (or Battery Electric Vehicle, BEV if you like) could offer.
We take the new Hyundai Kona on a shoot
We needed some promotional photos of the all new 2018 Hyundai Kona EV.
This involved a bit of a tiki tour to get the right shot. This also involved some quiet time behind the wheel of this next generation all electric vehicle from Hyundai.
They say the big selling point is the 468KM range from one charge.
We say the big selling point is how it drives.
This is the future folks.
This week Bowater Hyundai have had an early release Hyundai Kona EV for test drives. Congrats to all those on the list that got to experience the future. Very seductive and alluring. Once you have experience of the instant torque of the EV it’s hard to go back, and this one has range enough for you to not even notice what the battery status is Day to Day.
