Bowater Toyota provides cars with heart!
When it comes to having heart, Bowater Toyota has got plenty, and even plenty to spare!
We were recently approached by Shane our friendly Anchor milkman and Steve Steele to lend support to a group of keen locals involved in the @ Heart Charity Run in aid of raising money for At Heart - charity that supports Kiwi children and families affected by CHD (congenital heart defect), right through their life. Another local milkman Trevor Nicholls stepped up to the plate as an additional driver and the Bowater Toyota sponsored entry was born!
Trevor Nicholls receives the keys to the aptly named Super Windy from Bowater Toyota CEO Tony Bowater.
The plan was to enter a car into the Charity run from Auckland all the way back to Nelson over the course of a week, fund raising all of the way.
Of course we jumped on board, with a recently traded 1998 Toyota Corolla Super Windy the recipient of some stylish signwriting from Mark and the team at The Signman.
The Bowater Toyota sponsored car at The Signman getting a whole lot of love!
Trevor Nicholls is also a milkman, and a mate of Shane and Steve. They suggested he get involved as a driver as we were preparing a car for the charity run.
Trevor is a pretty down to earth bloke and loves to give back to a community that has treated him well - he feels that it is his duty to take an opportunity to be charitable when it presents itself. The chance to have a bash with a bunch of like minded folk was also quite attractive so he leapt at the chance. Afterall it is not ever day that you get to go on a massive road trip with your mates, have some fun, and also do some real good work for the community and help out some fairly hard hit families at the same time!
Trevor checks out the engine of this galliant beast that will travel with him on this epic road trip!
The Toyota Corolla Super Windy is a fantastic car and because it is a Corolla it will be super reliable, no doubt in that! Trevor is an old hand at these charity runs, having done a couple in the past on old Postie bikes, so he was quite chuffed to be driving a car as legendary as the Bowater Toyota Super Windy (insert inappropriate comments here about Trevor being super Windy....)
.....and so off into the sunset drove Trevor - ready to head to the North Island to do his bit raising both funds and awareness for an issue that affects a number of local families.
We will hopefully keep tabs on Trevor, Shane, Steve and the rest of the drivers as they make their way back to Nelson, so keep an eye on our Facebook page!
More about @Heart.
Each week in New Zealand, 12 babies are born with a congenital heart defect. Some of these babies face the reality of life-saving open heart surgery within the first few days of life.
Other previously healthy children can find themselves living with a heart condition as a result of a childhood illness such as Rheumatic Fever.
For most heart kids, the battle is never over – normal life is peppered with check-ups, blood tests, echocardiograms, medical interventions and further open heart surgeries as they grow – and they will need lifelong support as there is no cure for a heart defect.
@Heart walks alongside each of these heart kids and their families and shares in their battles, providing them with the practical, emotional and psycho-social support they need to cope with the challenges.
@Heart is a national organisation and is not affiliated to the Heart Foundation. Without Government funding, we rely on voluntary donations and support to make our work possible.
