Drive your dream with Bowater Hyundai

The super green hydrogen powered Hyundai Nexo has arrived.

There are exciting glimpses into the future happening right now down at Bowater Hyundai.

This year we have the honour of presenting the brand new Hyundai Nexo to those attending the Golden Bay A&P Show on Saturday 18th January.

For a couple of days only you can take a look at the future of our personal transportation with NZ’s first hydrogen powered mainstream vehicle. It’s going to be the centrepiece of Bowater Hyundai’s stand at this Saturday’s Golden Bay A&P Show. In the meantime you can see it at Bowater Hyundai on Rutherford Street. It is well worth a look.

The All-New Hyundai NEXO strengthens Hyundai Motor’s commitment to a cleaner future, taking the lead in fuel cell electric vehicles, offering the most advanced technology on the market with autonomous driving capabilities and the strongest powertrain on offer in that range.

Why the Hyundai Kona Electric is our Top Plug-In Car of 2018

Despite a lot of talk about plug-in vehicles this year, it's still very early days for electric vehicles in New Zealand. The infrastructure is improving, but the cars are few in number and the capital cost is very high.

Logic might dictate this award go to a plug-in hybrid vehicle then, which gives a taste of pure-EV running but keeps a combustion engine in the loop as we adjust to this brave new world.

That might have happened, had the Hyundai Kona Electric not come along and completely recalibrated our expectations of what a pure-EV (or Battery Electric Vehicle, BEV if you like) could offer.

We take the new Hyundai Kona on a shoot

We needed some promotional photos of the all new 2018 Hyundai Kona EV.
This involved a bit of a tiki tour to get the right shot. This also involved some quiet time behind the wheel of this next generation all electric vehicle from Hyundai.

They say the big selling point is the 468KM range from one charge.
We say the big selling point is how it drives.
This is the future folks.

This week Bowater Hyundai have had an early release Hyundai Kona EV for test drives. Congrats to all those on the list that got to experience the future. Very seductive and alluring. Once you have experience of the instant torque of the EV it’s hard to go back, and this one has range enough for you to not even notice what the battery status is Day to Day.

Daryl has been in the car industry for a long time, ever since he started as an apprentice mechanic for the Post Office's Workshop in Wellington, where he grew up.

We are fortunate to have him, and all of his varied vehicle industry experience, with us at Bowater Hyundai since 2010. He has seen the Hyundai brand go from strength to strength and has a depth of technical knowledge of the evolution of the range of vehicles.

Daryl lives in Stoke with his wife, they have four grown children living as far afield as Wellington and Sydney. A proud supporter of the Hurricanes and the Lions, Daryl maintains his strong connection to the city he grew up in.

He is a strong believer in the Bowater Motor Group philosophy of giving back to the community and thrives on "the strong focus of ethical business within the company". As such Daryl is a strong advocate for the special relationships that Bowater Hyundai has built with community partners such as Big Brothers Big Sisters and Victory Boxing.

Daryl is an enthusiastic fisherman and says his lack of results has failed to deter him from his enthusiasm.
