Love to park for free this winter? Bowater Honda is helping drive this Nelson Initiative
UPDATED: 17TH SEPTEMBER, 2014
Free Parking Extended until 19th October!
Bowater Honda Sales Manager Nick D'Evereux with Chris Bowater and Cathy Madigan from Uniquely Nelson.
Bowater Honda is proud to be helping to bring free parking to central Nelson this winter.
We have been a long term partner to Uniquely Nelson over the past 3 years this campaign has run. This year it has got a bit of a shakeup. A 12 week trial of Free Parking every day in Nelson’s central business district is underway and if the number of cars in the CBD over the past few days is any indication, it's a big success already!
We recently handed over the keys to a new Honda City to be used to promote this wonderful initiative around the streets of Nelson this winter.
The trial period was initially set to run from 1 July until 30 September 2014, but due to the success it has been extended until the end of the school holidays on 19th October. Here are some other things you may need to know.
What You Need To Know
This is a plea to all city workers to respect that the Free Parking initiative is designed to bring more customers into the city to support our retailers and businesses.
IT IS NOT FREE ALL-DAY PARKING FOR CITY WORKERS!
Please continue to park in the same place you always park on the outskirts of the CBD, do not bring your car into the city all day during the Free Parking initiative. Of course, city workers are also customers, so if you wish to park in the city for a short time to do some shopping, you are welcome!
Things you need to know:
- Parking time limits still apply and will be enforced. If your customers overstay in the parking time limit marked, they will receive a ticket.
- The all-day paid parking in Wakatu car park remains PAID parking. Please buy a ticket at the machine if you wish to park your car here. This is the only zone within the city where you can park all day, but you must buy a ticket.
- PLEASE NOTE - THE 6 CARPARKS IN ACHILLES AVE ARE STILL PAID - As this is right outside the front entrance to Bowater Honda, and the back entrance / workshop entrance to Bowater Toyota, our customers could potentially get caught out by this. The 6 carparks we are referring to are closest to Rutherford Street.
- Buxton and Montgomery car parks are a maximum of 3 hours free parking. Please note, simply moving to another parking space in the same car park will result in a parking ticket. The time limits in the car parks apply to the whole car park, not just the car spot you have parked in.
- Expired warrants, registration and safety issues will still be enforced but in some cases there may be a grace period and a reminder might be issued in the first instance rather than a fine.
Let’s all work together to make Free Parking a great success! Remember, it’s a trial now extended until 19th October but if it delivers great results for the city, we have a better chance of getting more permanent parking changes from Council.
