Bowater Hyundai announces Spirit of Adventure Trust scholarship
Last week we attended the Nelson College for Girls assembly to announce another exciting, high achiever based scholarship.
Hyundai have got behind the Spirit of Adventure Trust as major sponsors and as a result of this all Hyundai franchises have the opportunity to be involved as well. Bowater Hyundai immediately set about finding out how best to offer this great opportunity to local students, and decided upon establishing a scholarship that met 50% of the total cost of a student's berth on the Spirit of Adventure Trust's training vessel, the tall ship "Spirit of New Zealand".
The school assembly was a great platform to get the girls excited about this wonderful and potentially life changing opportunity, with our Bowater Hyundai Sales Manager presenting a multi media presentation showcasing what the Spirit of New Zealand tallship is all about.
NCG Principal Cathy Ewing introducing addressing the students.
Every year the Spirit of Adventure Trust runs 25-29 voyages on their training ship the Spirit of New Zealand. This provides a life changing experience for between 1000 and 1200 young people aged 15-18 years, from a wide range of ethnic and social backgrounds throughout the country, to participate in their Youth Development programme.
The berth on one of these 10 day Training Adventures costs $1800, with the student expected to fund raise - and this is where Bowater Hyundai have come onboard to help. By fronting up with half of the cost, $900, this takes some of the pressure off the applicant having to raise what may seem like quite a lot of money in a short time frame.
We are pleased that we can help provide a wonderful, educational experience to the youth of our district - it is opportunities like this that can be quite life changing, and money need not be a factor holding a student back from applying. The fact that we have granted have of the cost makes the fund raising a little less daunting - afterall $1800 is a whole lot of sausage sizzles or car washes!
Good luck to the students - we look forward to following the journey!
