The Nelson Ark - Compassion in Action
Recognising the healing power of contact with animals, the Nelson Ark deliver educational, rehabilitative and integrative programmes to benefit older people and youth at risk & youth offenders.
The Nelson ARK rescues unwanted and abused dogs and pairs them with young people who are perhaps losing their way. This combination has proven to be truly transformative for the lives of both the young people and the rescued dogs and has repercussions throughout the entire community.
The Nelson ARK is a Charitable Trust founded in 2002 by Susan Murray-Rifici and Karen Howieson. The Trust Board currently consists of eight members comprising representatives from the fields of education, law, business, health, animal welfare and veterinary science, as well as the perspective of youth and older persons.
The Nelson ARK is located at Stonehurst Farm in Richmond, just ten minutes from the centre of town. You can learn more about them by visiting their website: www.thenelsonark.co.nz
