We have been Good in the Hood. Thank you Motueka.

 Good in the hood cheques
The end results for the 2014 Z Good in the Hood - Fred Wassell from Motueka St John's, Senior Constable Grant Heney from the Motueka Police representing the Motueka Search & Rescue, Donna Smith from Victim Support, Linda Fickling from Plunket and Matt Morris, Site Manager Z Bowater Motors.

We must firstly thank the community of Motueka for really getting behind the 2014 Z Good in the Hood funding project this year. We had a lot of people coming in, spending their $20 during March and voting for their favourite charity, and by the end of the month the voting display was very full. This is just awesome as it indicates that the community spirit is definitely alive and well in Motueka!

The community groups standing to gain by receiving the Z Energy funding must have been very excited to see their section of the display filling up, realising that every token in their portion of the display represented another portion of funding to help their charity continue to do the good work that it does in the local Motueka community.

Last week we caught up with the charities to present them with their cheques, and have a quick catch up as to what some of them intended to do with their extra funding.

After voting ceased at the end of March the counting began and then the official process began in order to ensure that everything was above board and shipshape and proper. We contacted the 4 charities involved and arranged a get together that everyone (well nearly everyone) could attend to present this years 2014 Z Good in the Hood Official Cheques.

With all of the public holidays and short weeks in April this proved to be a little more challanging than it would appear, but we got there in the end with almost everyone in attendance. Gerry Tonkin from the Motueka branch of the Land Search & Rescue sent in his apologies, but we managed to pull in Senior Constable Grant Heney for the photo!

All of the representatives were very excited to be receiving essentially bonus funding.
The overall dollar value to be divided up according to the public's votes was $4,000.
The allocation was as follows:

  • Motueka St Johns $1520
  • Motueka Search & Rescue $1260
  • Victim Support Motueka $680
  • Plunket Motueka $560

The Motueka Search and Rescue indicated that they would be putting their share towards their building project or SAR radio gear.

Fred Wassell from the Motueka St John's suggested that their funding will go towards keeping the Motueka St John's Health Shuttle operational.

Thanks from the Bowater Motor Group to everyone that voted, and to everyone that was involved. Watch out later in the year for another round of Z Good inthe Hood geting underway, and make sure that you nominate your favourite local charity so that they can continue to be Good in the Hood!
